Development of a Conceptual Model for Economic Valuation of Emergent Contaminants to Support Decisions on Reducing Hydrometeorological Disaster Risk

Flooding is a natural disaster caused by various factors and has the power to damage the ecosystem. Not only surface water, the quality of ground water is also threatened due to the interaction between surface water and ground water. Floods will carry several materials and contaminants from various sources and have the potential to threaten human health. However, unfortunately, the risk of flooding as a threat to water resources has not been fully quantified properly. Flood prevention efforts are still prioritized in handling damage to public facilities and settlements. Studies on ecosystem losses due to flooding are also still limited to land damage. This research activity aims to obtain accurate data regarding contaminants (especially emergent contaminants) carried by flood runoff water and carry out an economic valuation of the losses they cause. The study's conceptual economic valuation model will also be developed to assist decision making in more comprehensive flood risk reduction.

Microorganism Immobilization Technology on Activated Carbon to Degrade Pesticide Residues in Water and Sediment Environments

Organochlorine pesticides (the most toxic and persistent) have been banned for use, but in reality pesticide residues are still found on agricultural land in Central Java, West Java and East Java. Pesticide residues can pollute environmental ecosystems, affecting soil fertility, crop yields, and human health. In human health, pesticides can damage steroid metabolism, damage thyroid function, spermatogenesis and the reproductive system. Pesticide poisoning can occur through direct exposure or by consuming food exposed to pesticides that exceed the maximum residue limit. This research aims to identify the effectiveness of microbial TKKS activated carbon as an adsorbant for pesticide residues. The research target is to produce microbial EFB active carbon products with the advantages of activated carbon with its strong adsorption properties coupled with pesticide degrading microorganisms which will be more effective in reducing pesticide residue compounds.

Water Resources Conservation in the Textile Industry with the Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) Approach

The textile industry is an industry that uses very large amounts of water for production processes. The used water is then disposed of in the form of liquid waste which is dangerous for the environment and human health. Because the textile industry produces products that support the national economy, while the availability of clean water is increasingly scarce, efforts to conserve water resources in the textile industry need attention. This research aims to create an infographic on water flow in process units in one of the textile industries in Bandung Regency using the Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) approach which refers to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. The infographic will explain the flow pattern (input output) usage water and its quality in a more communicative manner. Economic analysis is also applied so that the infographic is better quantified so that it can be used as a basis for decision making by the Company.
